Cast to Sonos
Privacy policy

Cast to Sonos is an independent Android app from Urmia Works. It shares permitted playback audio and, when you explicitly enable it, nearby microphone audio with speakers on your local network. No account is required. Contact [email protected] with privacy or support questions.

App-audio sharing

After you approve Android's audio-sharing prompt, the app copies audio from apps that permit capture and sends a live stream to your selected Sonos speakers over your local network. Audio is processed in short memory buffers and discarded as the stream advances. The app does not save recordings or send captured audio to Urmia Works or advertising providers. App-audio mode does not use your microphone. Android nevertheless requires its RECORD_AUDIO permission for playback capture.

The local speaker connection uses unencrypted HTTP. Use a trusted network. The stream uses a temporary session address and limits receiver access, but these controls do not encrypt it. Casting ends when you disconnect or revoke Android's sharing permission. Some source apps block capture. Phone playback can remain audible; the app does not lower your phone volume to hide this. Cast to Sonos app audio, including ad playback, is excluded from app-audio capture.

Optional microphone input

Microphone input is off unless you tap Use microphone, confirm Start microphone and grant Android microphone permission. It then streams nearby sound from the phone's microphone to your selected Sonos speakers over the same unencrypted local Wi-Fi connection. Microphone audio is processed in short memory buffers and discarded as the stream advances. It is not saved or uploaded to Urmia Works or advertising providers.

A foreground microphone notification provides mute and stop controls. Mute stops transmitting sound but retains microphone access until you tap Stop. Stop ends capture and releases microphone access. Microphone boost and peak limiting are applied locally and can be adjusted separately from app-audio gain.

A live microphone can hear nearby room sounds, including sound from the phone or audible advertisements. Keep the phone away from speakers to reduce acoustic feedback. Latency, stability and sound quality vary by phone, network and speaker setup and are not guaranteed.

Devices, apps and local settings

The app discovers local speakers and stores selected rooms, speaker addresses, sound settings and scenes on your phone. It queries launchable apps to let you choose a playback source. These details and the app list are not sent to Urmia Works or ad providers by our app code. Short diagnostic records contain connection events and errors, not audio. Diagnostics remain on your device unless you choose to copy and share a report.

Optional media controls

You can grant notification access to enable switching between music players. The app uses Android media sessions to identify the active player and ask the previous player to pause. It does not read, store or upload your notification messages. You can revoke this access in Android Settings; casting remains available.

Advertising and privacy choices

The app is free and uses Google AdMob and Google's User Messaging Platform. We request restricted data processing for every ad request, so Google serves non-personalized ads based on context rather than past behavior. Where required, a consent or opt-out message appears before eligible ad requests. Open Settings → Privacy & support → Ad privacy choices to revisit available choices. Casting remains available if consent is declined or ads cannot load.

Google's advertising SDK can collect and share IP addresses (including approximate location), device or advertising identifiers, product interactions and diagnostic information for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention. Google transmits its SDK data using encryption. This is separate from the unencrypted local audio stream. We do not send captured app or microphone audio, media-session details or installed-app lists to the advertising service.

Ads appear within the app while it is open. Banner and native advertisements may include video; ad audio is requested muted. Cast to Sonos app and ad playback is excluded from app-audio capture. If microphone input is active, however, the microphone can hear audible sound in the room, including phone or advertisement audio. Advertising availability varies. Retention and your controls

Clear the app's storage or uninstall it to remove its saved local settings and diagnostics. Live app and microphone audio is not retained after streaming. You can stop casting, stop microphone input, revoke audio-sharing, microphone or notification permissions, change ad privacy choices, and manage your Android advertising identifier in device settings. Muting microphone transmission does not release microphone access; use Stop to end capture. Data collected by Google is subject to Google's retention policies and controls. If you email support, Urmia Works receives the information you choose to send and uses it to answer your request. Do not attach private audio or sensitive diagnostics unless necessary.

Children and changes

This app is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We may update this policy as the app changes and will update the effective date above. Material changes will be disclosed as required.
